Situated on the edge of the Cotswolds, Hartwell House is the ideal base to visit Waddesdon Manor, Blenheim Palace and the dreaming spires of Oxford. Within a short drive is the market town of Thame and slightly further afield Woburn, both with a number of antique shops to visit.

Hartwell House itself has been home to many eminent guests and was the private house of the exiled King of France, Louis XVIII, for five years from 1809. Inside a dramatic Gothic hall with a staircase studded with Jacobean carved figures that lead to 30 superbly appointed individual bedrooms, some named after members of Louis XVIII’s court.

Additional accommodation is available in the Hartwell Court, a converted 18th century coach house and stables, with a further 16 bedrooms, 10 of which are suites, all decorated to the same standard as the house, some having garden views ideal for guests seeking seclusion and privacy. The Spa, housed in a splendid building modelled on an orangery, offers a heated indoor pool, whirlpool bath, steam room, sauna, well equipped gymnasium and four health and beauty treatments rooms.
